The Chicago Cubs haven’t made it to the World Series yet, in case you’re keeping score at home.
They haven’t made it to the NLCS yet; heck, they haven’t played a postseason game yet.
But don’t tell StubHub that.
The popular online marketplace that allows buyers to purchase tickets to various events has already posted tickets to attend a Cubs World Series game.
Oh, and did you catch that?
The $2,000 ticket is for standing room only.
To put that number into perspective, the face value of a ticket to last year’s World Series was $650.
In StubHub’s defense, if the Cubs made it all the way to the Fall Classic, it would certainly make a Wrigley Field ticket one of the hottest of the year.
That’s because the Cubs haven’t been to the World Series since 1945 and haven’t won the World Series since 1908, when President Theodore Roosevelt was at the head of state.
Still, it seems a bit premature to be posting tickets for the final games of a postseason that hasn’t started yet.
Not that the Cubs aren’t favorites to get to the World Series — they’ve proven all season that they are one of the best teams in baseball, if not the best.
Entering the final weekend of the regular season, the Cubs have won 101 games and will be the only team to reach the 100-win plateau this year.
They have individuals who have dominated in both the batting order and pitching staff.
Hendricks’ 1.99 ERA is the best in the NL and Lester’s 2.28 ERA is second-best.
The combination of Chicago’s hitting and pitching has given them a plus-248 run differential this season.
The Cubs have already clinched the No. 1 seed in the postseason so they will be play the winner of the NL Wild Card game — which would currently be the New York Mets, San Francisco Giants, or St. Louis Cardinals — in the NLDS.
That series will start Oct. 7.
Game 1 of the World Series will be Oct. 25.
